Jean was born to Jasper and Ida Kanawyer in Reedley, California. There she grew up on her parents' olive ranch and graduated from high school in 1941. She married John P. Holly on April 19, 1943 in Reno, Nevada. Their first son, Doug, was born in 1946. Soon after, they moved to Bend and began ranching. Their second son, Alan, came along in 1951. After they divorced in 1968, Jean moved back to California and then to Honolulu, HI for several years. She then returned to Central Oregon to be closer to her sons and grandchildren, living in both Redmond and Bend over the years. Jean had several occupations during her life but none she enjoyed more than being a volunteer for the Foster Grandparent Program. She spent many happy years working at Juniper Elementary in Bend, Evergreen Elementary in Redmond, and then High Lakes Elementary back in Bend. She loved being around kids and helping them learn to read gave a real purpose to her life. Other joys included being with family and friends, gardening, taking walks, reading and watching all of God's creatures - great and small. Words to describe her would be loving, giving, kind, selfless, curious, independent, friendly, talkative, helpful and sometimes stubborn. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, ex-husband and newborn twins. She is survived by her sons Doug (Connie) Holly of Sisters and Alan Holly of Lebanon. She is also survived by Jeanie Holly of Redmond, grandchildren Treasure Lewis, Sondy Rexford, Beau Holly, Adryan Holly, and six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookside Place and Heart to Home Hospice for giving her and us comfort in her final days. No service will be held. Memorial Contributions can be made to The Multiple Sclerosis Society, 5331 SW Macadam Ave. Ste 290, Portland, OR 97239 or Heart to Home Hospice, 745 NW Mt Washington Dr. #205, Bend, OR 97703.
