Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Gadsden for Jean P. Holtsford, age 85, of Gadsden, who passed away Monday, January 23, 2017. Rev. Harvey Beck will officiate. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Friday, following the service. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Jean was born in Birmingham, AL to Leo R. and David Carl Pruitt, II on August 6, 1931. She graduated high school from Phillips High School in 1949. After attending Birmingham Southern she graduated from the University of Alabama in 1953. She was a member of Pi Phi sorority. Jean was the past president of the Gadsden Music Club and United Methodist Women. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Choir for over 50 years. She was a Sunday School teacher, organized the party for Exceptional Adults, was on the Board for the Gadsden Symphony, active in civic organizations, a member of the 21 Supper Club, was a pervious school teacher and active in fund raising and support for the Smeltzer Center.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Reese Pruitt and David Carl Pruitt, II; and brother, David Carl Pruitt, III.
She is survived by her spouse, Alex L. Holtsford; children, Ronald A. Holtsford (Jennifer), Alex L. Holtsford, Jr. (Charlene), and Laurie Holtsford; grandchildren, Joshua Holtsford (Danielle), Alex L. Holtsford, III, Charles I. Holtsford, David K. Holtsford, Will Buchanan, and Aaron S. Holtsford; and great-grandchild Sophie Holtsford.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joshua Holtsford, Alex L. Holtsford, III, Charles Holtsford, David Holtsford, Will Buchanan, and Aaron Holtsford.
Honorary pallbearers are First United Methodist Church choir and Morris Friendship Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to First United Methodist Church Altar Fund, First United Methodist Church Howell Erwin Fund, or Gadsden Music Club.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
