PUTNEY, Jeanie T. 87, went home to be with the Lord May 4, 2017. She was born in Dearborn, Michigan December 7, 1929. Survived by her husband, Louis W. Putney, her children, Louis D. Putney (Karen) and Patricia Tope (Greg), 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She attended Hillsborough High School (Class of 1947), where she was a member of the band, Terrier Orators, Youth for Christ and the House of Representatives. Jeanie attended the University of Florida, where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education (cum Laude) in 1950. Jeanie was a teacher in the Hillsborough County Schools, and was an American Red Cross life saving and swimming instructor. Jeanie loved the theater and public broadcasting, and she researched and hosted 360 TV shows for the program “Front Desk” on WEDU television in Tampa. She was an actress in local theater productions, a member of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and reported for “Variety International”. Jeanie was the founding president of Tampa Chapter Women for Responsible Legislation, served a 5-year appointment to the Hillsborough County Board of Consumer Affairs and Appeals, was a member of the Hillsborough County Republican Executive Committee, was a member of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce State and Local Government Council, and served as president of the Hillsborough County Bar Auxiliary. She maintained an interest in public education, and was a charter member and president of Tampa Bay Alumni Chapter, Kappa Delta Pi, a national honor society in education. Jeanie was a devoted member of Bel Mar Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school, was president of the Women of the Church, and engaged in other church activities.
