Emma Jeanine Merritt Mathews, aka Jeannie Mathews, passed away on March 19, 2017, at the age of 87.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life Stanley S. Mathews Jr., her son, Sonny Mathews, her son, Chris Mathews and her mother, Velma Merritt Schaefer.

She is survived by her son, Frank Mathews his wife, Betty Jo and son, Earl Mathews and his wife, Shirley Mathews. Grandchildren, Russell Mathews, Christopher Mathews, Brian Mathews wife, Linny and Becky Mathews. Great-grandchildren, Nate Mathews and Lucas Mathews. Also a brother-in-law, James Kershaw; niece, Jamie Kershaw McDonald and a nephew, Ricky Kershaw.

She was a very special lady who was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

She enjoyed all of her dogs (Buddy, Sissy and Bella). Lets not forget Mombo the Blue and Gold McCaw. She thoroughly enjoyed fishing and crabbing at the coast. Most often at Rockport and Goose Island State Park. She also enjoyed hunting deer for many decades in Rock Springs, Blanco and Dripping Springs. Another pass time of fun was playing Skip-Bo and Aggravation with family and friends at home, while camping and at neighbors and friends homes. She also crocheted many beautiful afghans for family and friends.

She will be missed greatly by all and the memories she made with so many of us will live on in the hearts of those she touched during her long and happy life.

During the past year of challenges and health decline, the family would like to express a heartfelt "Thank You" to her many friends, church family and Hospice for the support, prayers and many acts of kindness shown to her and her family.

A Visitation will be held at 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home
