Jeanne Lahman, the matriarch of middle East Street, reluctantly left her family and many friends on December 23, 2016.

Born in Baltimore on April 8, 1926, to Janie Purdy Dawson and Paul E. Carre, she grew up on the campus of McDonogh School, where her father taught for 60 years. Her local roots were deep, however, and moving “home” to Annapolis in 1977 ushered in one of the happiest times of her life. In her later years, her most treasured outings would be with cousin George Dawson and they explored her childhood vacation haunts of Mayo, Carr’s Wharf and Cadle Creek.

Together with husband Glenn, whom she wed in 1950, they opened their East Street home to friends up and down the street as well as across oceans and between continents. For so many, “Jeannie” was the mom to those whose own family lived far away, moved away, and sometimes had passed away.

The quintessential mid-century housewife, she dutifully followed her husband Glenn, locally known as “the Cap’n” as his career moves with Westinghouse Broadcasting took the family to Boston and Pittsburgh, far from her beloved Maryland. She was preceded in death by Glenn in 2010. She is survived by Ellen “Boo” Lahman, CAPT, Nurse Corps, USN, Ret of Harwood and Paige Cumberpatch of Sherwood Forest.

In addition to Boo and J.P., Jeanne leaves her loyal and sole surviving sibling Lynne Carre Fenwick, of Harwood. as well as her granddaughter and soulmate Lily, with whom she shared a bond oblivious to the 68 years that separated them. Life was sweeter, saltier, spicier, juicier, and infinitely more exciting with Jeanne in it. She will be missed.
