Jeannette Bentley Moon, age 100, passed away February 22, 2017 at her home at Lenbrook Square. She was born June 2, 1916 in Putnam, CT and moved to Atlanta in 1933, and graduated from North Fulton High School. Mrs. Moon graduated from Oglethorpe University in 1938 and eventually received a master’s degree from Emory University and the University of Georgia. While at Oglethorpe, she met and married her beloved husband, H. Cecil Moon. They had many wonderful years together until his death in 1983. Mrs. Moon was a devoted teacher in Atlanta City Schools where she touched many lives with her dedication and love of teaching. After developing what is now known as Economics America for the Atlanta School System, she worked at Georgia State teaching law-related education workshops. In 1997, she received the Berryman Award for exemplary service to social studies in Georgia. Mrs. Moon was a charter member of St. James United Methodist Church and was very active there and at Lenbrook retirement community. Mrs. Moon is preceded in death by her parents Milton J. and Emma S. Bentley and brother Milton L. Bentley. She is survived by her three nieces, Deborah Little (Fletcher), Jean Alvis (Jay) and Jane Davenport. Also six great nieces and nephews and ten great-great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at Lenbrook Square in the Event Center at 2:00 p.m. on March 18, 2017.
