Jennie Ruth Amberson Jones, 99, died Feb. 27, 2017. Born in Alexandria, Alabama, she spent most of her life in Gadsden. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Gadsden, where she taught children's Sunday school classes for over 38 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, James A. Jones; parents, John (Jack) and Maude Amberson; brothers, Houston Amberson, M. A. Amberson, and Louie Amberson; sisters, Mattie Lou Amberson White, Georgia Amberson Wimpee and Lorraine Amberson.
She is survived by daughter, Jamie (Mike) Watford; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Sullivan and Rob (Jewel) Watford; great-grandchildren, Carson Sullivan, Cameron Sullivan and Zariah Watford; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 to 2 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at Collier-Butler at 2 p.m. with graveside service to follow. Dr. Harrell Cushing and Rev. Mat Alexander will officiate. Interment will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will direct. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Gadsden.
Honorary pallbearers are deacons and members of First Baptist Church, Gadsden, and personal friends and family.
