Mr. Jerry Ray "Wilk" Wilkinson, 83, of Valdese, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 29, 2020 after a period of declining health.
Jerry was born on March 18, 1937, a son of the late Floyd and Amie Brittain Wilkinson. He was a graduate of Valdese High School class of 1955. Mr. Wilkinson retired from Burke County Public School System in 1994 with 30 years of service. His first 10 years were at Oak Hill High School in Morganton and the last 20 years were at East Burke High School in Icard. He was a vocational teacher , specializing in Masonry, Electrical and Plumbing classes. He was a member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) where he served on numerous committees and was a former Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Eleanor "Tensie" Wilson Wilkinson and a step grandson, Stephen Childers.
Surviving are his four children, Edward "Eddie" Wilkinson of Rutherford College, Marty Wilkinson (Brenda) , Elaine W. Bradshaw (Terry) all of Connelly Springs and Karen W. Bryant (Jesse) of Valdese. Also his brothers, Jack Street (Dorothy) of Canton, Ga., Dr. Robert Street (Patsy) of
Greensboro and John Wilkinson of Kingston, TN. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Graveside Services for Jerry Ray Wilkinson will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday January 3, 2021 in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Kevin Fredrick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Music program, 109 Main St. Valdese, NC 28690, or She Rocks, inc. at P.O. Box 4163, Greensboro, NC 27404 (for support of Ovarian Cancer Research) or Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Ct, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
