Jerry Walter Wood, a hard working builder and gentleman farmer, died on Friday at the age of 82. Jerry grew up in Bassett and Martinsville, VA, the only child of Rose and Moir Wood.

Jerry fell in love with Helen Clark when he was a student at Virginia Tech. After waiting his turn to date her, they married and she became his wife and business partner of 61 years. In 1960, they moved to Greensboro and began a successful rental property business, renting at first just one mobile home. Over the years, they built duplexes and apartment buildings which the family takes pride in managing to this day.

On most Saturdays, they left Greensboro to head to Helen's family farm in Claudville, VA to care for the land and cattle. Two summers ago Jerry fulfilled a dream to kayak a stretch of the Dan River which flows through the farm.

Jerry and Helen were delighted to have their three daughters; Kate, Joyce and Virginia live in Greensboro and become partners in Wood Properties. He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Jerry was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed the Young Men's Bible Class.

The service to celebrate his life will be held at Helen's church, Starmount Presbyterian Church on Monday, February 20 at 3 PM. All are invited to attend the reception in the parlor after the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Starmount Presbyterian Church's Building and Grounds Fund, 3501 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC 27403; or First Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Elm Street. Greensboro, NC 27401.
