Joan Frank of Apache Junction, AZ passed away peacefully in her sleep at Apache Junction Health Center on October 14th, 2016, with her family by her side. She was born at home on March 29, 1935 in Buffalo, NY to Ernest A. and Evelyn E. Frank. Joan graduated Kensington H. S. and worked as a medical technician at the University of Buffalo Hospital, Children's Hospital in Buffalo, a surgical technician at Bertrand Chaffee in Springville, NY, and finally at Southside Hospital/Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa, AZ where she retired.
Devoted to her family, she is survived by her brother Robert Frank, daughters Marilyn Coburn (Ken) and Suzanne Zdonek. Joan was also a loving grandmother and great-grandmother to David Simpson (Erin) with their daughters Alexandra and Madison, and son Elijah, Brandon Simpson (Araceli) with their sons David, Ethan, and Jayden, Joseph Sullinger, Amy Wierenga (Troy) with their son Elijah and daughter Julianna, and finally Zachary Coburn. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, twin brother Ernest (Bud) Frank, and son David J. Zdonek.
An active member of her community, Joan was well known and liked in her community growing up as a charter member of The Chapel in Buffalo, NY and as an Easter Star member. She truly enjoyed life and spending time with friends and family.
Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was compassionate and hospitable and always offered to provide assistance to those around her as well as tell stories of her experiences. Her presence will be missed.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Nov 3rd at 10am in the Melcher Chapel of the Roses, 43 S. Stapley Dr. Mesa, AZ with Rev. Phil Goldsberry officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to local Pit Bull rescue groups.
