Joan Cleary Bryars, 83 of Roseville, California, passed away peacefully at Summerset Assisted Living from complications caused by a stroke on October 15, 2017.
The rosary service will be held at 10:00 am and the funeral service will be held at 10:30 am at Lambert Funeral Home on October 31, 2017. Burial will follow the funeral at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at 1:30 pm. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Lambert Funeral Home.
Joan was born in Drexel Hills, Pennsylvania on April 15, 1934. She was the youngest of 2 born to Mary Katherine and Joseph William Cleary. She graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory, Baltimore, Maryland in 1952 and she attended college after high school.
Joan was married to James Bryars on September 7, 1957; they were married 60 years.
Joan worked as an Executive Assistant for the States Attorney Office prior to getting married. She was a fabulous hostess, known for her fun and loving personality. She made everyone feel welcome, in her beautifully decorated home and impressed with her fantastic food and drink. Her home was written up in the local newspapers in Scott Air force base, Illinois and in Destin, Florida, for her flare in interior design. She had a wonderful sense of style and would, on a regular basis, have people stop her to ask about her outfit. She was also a very devote catholic and actively involved in the church when she was younger. At St. John Fisher Catholic Church, Joan assisted families with disabled children, was active in the Guild and Catholic education.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Bryars, Sons, Jim (Cindy) Bryars and Scott (Tracy) Bryars, Daughters, Sue (Gerald) Ketchum and Kathy (Pat) Lahr, grandchildren, Joe Bryars, Paul Ketchum, John Bryars, Mark Ketchum, Christy Bryars, Jim Bryars, Brittany Bryars, William Ketchum, Andrew Lahr, Mary Lahr, Nephews, Tom Cleary, Dan Cleary, Nieces, Laurie Jensen, Ann Channell, and other family and friends.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ken Cleary
