Joan M. Smith passed away peacefully at her home on June 15, 2017 at the age of 85. Mrs. Smith was a resident of River Edge for 55 years. She graduated William Paterson University with a B.A. in business and was employed by DeBartolo Corporation as an office manager for many years. Joan was an active parishioner of St. Peter's R.C. Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Society. As an avid quilter, she created quilts for Covenant House. She also knitted and crocheted blankets for the Linus Club. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jack Smith of 58 years in August 2015, and her brother Donald Laffey. Beloved mother of Regina and her husband John, John E. Smith, Jr. and his wife Robin, Marianne Smith, Patrick A. Smith and his wife Susanna, Margaret Smith-Gould and her husband Jared. Devoted Sister of Anne Sharkey. Cherished grandmother of Melissa and Jordan Karch, Gabriel and Shayla Smith and Viola and Olivia Smith. Family will receive friends Tuesday, June 20th from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the William G. Basralian Funeral Service, 559 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday June 21st at at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 445 5th Ave, River Edge. All to meet at church. Her Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the River Edge Women's Club P.O. Box 417 River Edge, NJ 07661.
