Joe Lee Lynch was born December 31, 1940 in Elkton, KY. He was the second child of the late Harvey Lee Lynch and the late Ellen Standard Lynch. Joe graduated from Russellville (KY) High School in 1959. He served in the United States Air Force from 1959-63. Joe attended Indiana University in the Air Force's Russian Language Program. Upon completion of this intensive program, Joe served as a Russian language translator from 1959-63. He was stationed in Turkey and Germany from 1960-63. Joe spent the next fifty years in the finance and banking industries in Nashville, TN, metropolitan Atlanta and Cartersville, GA. He retired from Unity National Bank in 2013.
Joe is survived by his wife Emily Dyer Lynch, his daughters Susan Lynch Anderson and her husband Kenneth of Prairieville, LA; Helen Lynch Laurie and her husband Thomas of New York, New York; Rachel Lynch Johnson, her husband Eric and their children Victor and Nancy of Cartersville, GA; his eldest sister Pat Lynch Hagerman of Gulf Breeze, MS; John and Lorae Lynch of White House, TN; Michael Lynch of Atlanta, GA; Lindy Lynch Hesson of Portland, TN, and several nieces and nephews scattered across the Southeast. Two of Joe's younger sisters, Cindy Lynch Perdue of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Lisa Lynch of Nashville, TN died in 2016 and 2015 respectively.
Joe died from complications related to Parkinson's Disease and metastatic prostate cancer on Wednesday February 8, oddly the birthday of his beloved mother. He really did fight the noble fight. He never complained - ever. He was just wistful that he would not live to see his family grow. His family is losing the true guiding light of their lives.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 12 at Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, GA 30120. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The funeral service, officiated by The Reverend Juan Anzora of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, begins at four o'clock in the afternoon at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Monday, February 13 at ten o'clock in the morning.
