Joe Rodriguez passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 4:00 a.m. just seven days after his 89th birthday at Memorial Herman Hospice in Houston, Texas. The staff at Memorial Herman Memorial City and Memorial Hermann Hospice did an outstanding job taking care of Joe.

Joe lived each day like his last. Even as he was complaining about chest pain, he was always proactive and said "We will do what we have to do to move on." After some exploratory cardiac procedures, it was deemed that the quintuple bypass that he had some years back, had completely occluded. He was a warrior to his last breath.

Joe was a greatest generation veteran having served in the 11th Airborne Division and had 19 jumps to his credit. His other loves and pursuits were being a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and being active in both the choir and the Knights of Columbus chapter.

Joe was educated in "the school of life" as he had a 4th grade education. Out of these humble beginnings rose a successful business owner who had a dry cleaning and laundry business, a delivery service and a pallet business.

More successful than that, Joe was a husband and father beyond compare. He was married to Matilde Flores Farias on March 8, 1952 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Victoria, Texas. They had three sons, David Joe, Darrell Joshua and Derrick Patrick Rodriguez. He was married to his beloved "Tillie" for 64 years.

To say that Joe was a friend to all and that he liked helping people was an understatement. He left an impact on his family, his Spring Branch community and his church that is still being positively felt to this day.

Family and friends gathered during a visitation from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where a Vigil service began at 6:00 p.m.

The Funeral Liturgy was held at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood, also in Houston, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017, where a reception followed in the Father Raye center on the St. Jerome campus.

At 1:15 p.m., the Rite of Committal followed at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, where Military Honors were rendered by member's of the United States Army and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8790, Honor Guards.

The funeral directors and St. Jerome's Church administrative and choir staff were instrumental in their arrangement of the vigil and church service. Their tireless efforts to make sure Joe's passage on to Glory are so much appreciated.
