John B. Farmer

Jan 10, 1930 - Dec 10, 2017

Born in Madison, SD to Leila (Love) and Walter Harrison Farmer. He had two older siblings Betty Dodson and George as well as Penny (Gumz) Knudsen who was like a little sister. Graduated Madison High School in 1949 followed by 3 years of college for Mechanical Engineering before serving in the US Navy during the Korean War, as an Engineman on the USS Mellette.

John married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Leeper in 1955 at the Methodist Church in Madison. They were married 42 years and had two children. John enjoyed a successful 31 year career with The Standard Oil Company, retiring in 1986. He was a Mason for 57 years and a Shriner.

Preceded in death by his wife, siblings and many friends. Survived by son, Scott (Cathy) and daughter Julie (Rob Hitchcock). Above all John loved his family. He will remain our example of strength, kindness and humility. He taught us to enjoy life, find humor, respect God and country and practice common sense. He will be deeply missed. Special thanks to his friends and the staff at Lakeside Village, Picket Fence Homecare and The Lighthouse. In Lieu of flowers please direct memorials to The Shriners Hospital for Children (ShrinersHospitalforChildren.org) or Feline Friendz of Omaha, PO Box 641818, Omaha, NE 68164.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, Dec 19 at 2pm at First United Methodist Church 7020 Cass Street Omaha, NE.
