John Charles McGuire, 75, of Bloomington, died Sunday evening at I.U. Health; Bloomington Hospital. Born March 27, 1941 in Monroe County, the son of Clovis Charles "Tuffy" and Ruemma (Baker) McGuire. He retired as a Journeyman Ironworker after forty-five years of service. He was a member of the Ironworkers Union, local #22 in Indianapolis. He attended Bloomington High School and later he proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban missile crisis. He was a member of the Burton Woolery Post 18 of the American Legion and a former member of the V.F.W. He was of the Christian faith and loved spending time with his loving family. He also enjoyed being active and doing things outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Sheets) McGuire, to whom he married on June 8, 1962 in Jacksonville, Florida; one son and daughter-in-law, John "Chip" and (LaDonna) McGuire, of Solsberry; three daughters, Karina McGuire and her partner, Monica Zahasky, of Bloomington, Kauana McGuire Staggs and her husband, Rock, of Bloomington and Wendy McGuire and her wife, Jaime Loudenslager, of Bloomington; three sisters, Patricia J. McGuire, of San Antonio, TX, Marlene Gunter, of Pelion, SC and Eleanor Mann and her husband, John, of Heltonville; one brother, James "Jim" (Teresa) McGuire, of Bedford, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Dakota Cummings, one sister, Bonnie Sue Sowders and three brothers, David F. McGuire, Lester "Jack" McGuire and William "Bill" McGuire.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St; Bloomington with Pastor Tony Stinson officiating. Burial will follow in Garrison Chapel Cemetery where the Monroe Veterans Honor Guard will be performing military graveside rites. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Monroe County Humane Association or to Wildcare, Inc. of Bloomington.
