John David (Bubby) Westerman (54) passed away July 31st, 2014 in his Blue Springs home. John David was born in Kansas City, MO. October 23rd 1959. He is survived by his daughter and son, April D. Bennett of Gainesville, FL and John Andrew Westerman (wife Misty) of Olathe, KS. John David was grandfather to Jace Bennett, Tony Westerman, Phillip Joseph (PJ) Westerman, Aiden Desper and Landon Desper.

John’s mother and step-father, Dorothy and Andrew Canupp, mourn the loss of his passing. He is preceded in death by his father David Joe Westerman Jan. 1, 1990.

John David, or Bubby as he was known by his siblings, is also survived by; V. Diana Thatcher, Doreen and her husband Joseph Kostelac, Debbie Westerman, Bruce Canupp and Pamela Canupp. John will be missed and remembered by his nieces and nephews along with aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

John graduated Raytown Vocational Technical school and directly began his career as an Auto Body Repairman. He took pride in his skill and worked for Charlie’s Auto Body of Blue Springs for most of his career. John David won a number of awards for his extraordinary work in restoration and customization of classic vehicles. He belonged to Good Guys Car Club in the 90's. Most commonly remembered were his ‘50 Chevy pickup and the Classic 1930’s Plymouth Business Coupe.

John David also enjoyed the craft of leatherworking and made friends and family intricately detailed articles of leather which were generally customized with their name. He was born with a kind spirit and tender heart. John David had an uncanny gift of remembering events, places and people. On a perfect day, he would be fishing with his mother. His heart and hands were happiest when he was helping someone.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate his memory on Thursday, August 7th, 2014 at 10 am at Lake Jacomo (Fleming Park in Jackson County) Shelter house #1. If attending you may want to bring a folding chair or blanket.
