John “Dewey” Ferguson, 100, of Charleston died February 2, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House.



Dewey was born December 30, 1916 in Huntington to the late Lucinda and Garland Millard Ferguson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Jean Ferguson; sisters, Chestina Evans and Irene Frazier; and brothers, William, and Garland Millard Ferguson.



Dewey served in the United States Navy at Saipan and Guam during WWII. He worked for the Charleston Broom Company. He was an artist at making brooms, painting landscapes, and fishing.



Dewey is survived by his sons, Ronald Ferguson (Nadeane), and Stephen Ferguson, both of Charleston; grandsons, Lewis Ferguson of Portland, Oregon, and Matthew Ferguson (Andrea) of Charleston; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Eleanor Ferguson, and Andrew James Ferguson of Charleston.



Service will be 2pm Sunday, February 5 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV 25313. Dewey will be buried next to his wife in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.



A gathering of family and friends will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
