John Emory Byers, of Gilbert Arizona, passed away peacefully in his home on September 3, 2016. He was born on October 2, 1939 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania to Walt and Georgia Byers. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force, he served 4 years, during this time his family moved to Arizona. Once his contract was up, he also moved to Arizona. He started attending church where his dad was a Methodist minister. He met Arline at MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship), where she promptly turned him down four times. He was trying to get her attention and was caught passing notes during a sermon. His dad stopped the sermon and told John "If you want to talk to your girl, go sit by her".. he promptly moved over there, much to the embarrassment of Arline. She finally accepted and they went on their first date to Bob's Big Boy. Shortly after, he proposed on the west side of Paul L Sale. They were married on August 23, 1963. They celebrated their 53 year anniversary recently. John was incredibly successful in his professional life as well. He worked his way up from a mortgage collector to a Executive Senior Vice President for Citicorp. He was responsible for overseeing 36 states. Even after his retirement from Citicorp he was asked to consult for his expertise from several different companies. He was an animal lover, he felt that people were the voice for animals and wanted to do what he could to stop animal abuse. He loved his job and helping others. He was proud of his professional accomplishments and especially his family life. John will be missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Arline; daughters Adine (Tom)Young, Beth (Gene) Mellage; grandchildren, Kristie Lynch (Kimo), CPL Matt Young (Skye), Josh Young (Abby), Nick Mellage.
