JOHN "JACK" G. HORNBERGER, 94, passed away Sunday Feb. 5, 2017. Born in Fort Wayne, he graduated from South Side High School, attended Illinois Wesleyan University and married his college sweetheart, Jean, prior to being deployed overseas serving in the Army during World War II. After returning from the war, he played semi-pro baseball and was inducted into the Fort Wayne Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988. He retired as co-owner of Indland Oil Inc. He enjoyed fishing, golf, bowling, hunting, RV traveling and spending time with family. He was a member of Waynedale United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his children, Sharon Mills, Sandy (Randy) Plummer, John (Bridget O'Rourke) Hornberger, and Jody (Brian) Taylor; grandchildren, Michelle (John) Nelson, Mike (Mandy) Mills, Laura Hinton, Corey Teague, and Adam Plummer; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jean; and siblings, Richard, Thomas and James Hornberger.

Service is 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials to Waynedale United Methodist Church or Visiting Nurse Hospice.
