John George Swider loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on June 21, 2017; he was 87 years old. He was the son of the late Arthur Swider and Lillian Barton Swider Dombek. John was born in Maryland Park, Maryland of Polish/French Canadian heritage, and was a resident of Metairie and Chalmette. He was accepted into the United States Army Air Corps in 1947 and assigned to the 3400th Radar Training Squadron at the Army Air Corps base in Boca Raton, Fl. John was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1950. His survivors include his loving daughters of their beloved mother Cesla Remont Swider (deceased); Yvonne King (Tony), Denise Mayeur (Louis), Pamela Mercier (Clifford), Jonette Swider and Michelle Rae (deceased). Survivors also include his loving children of the late Lynda Scheuermann Swider; Jeanine Dunne Pellegrini (Kerry) and John Christian Swider (Lori). John had a host of dearly loved grandchildren and great grandchildren.





John attained an Associate Degree at Nicholls State University graduating Summa Cum Laude which granted him a scholarship to Louisiana State University where he completed his Bachelors of Science degree. His career choices afforded him many extraordinary opportunities but most dear to his heart was his tenure with the space industry where his team’s efforts plotted the precise trajectory of man’s first successful “Walk on the Moon”. He was also Chief of Joint Services for the Farm Credit Bank in New Orleans and Jackson, Mississippi. He was honored with the St. Louis Medallion award for his devotion to the work of the Catholic Church in the parish of Prince of Peace in Chalmette.





Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services/mass at Lakelawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, La. 70124, on Wednesday, June 28. Visitation will be from 9:00am-11:00am, followed by a mass.
