John L. Proffitt passed away peacefully on Jan. 17, 2018. He was born on April 16, 1929, in Lincoln, Neb., where he was raised. After graduating he was in the Naval Reserves and then attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, Calif. He came to Pueblo as a technical photographer and was employed by the Pueblo Army Depot and later the Transportation Test Center. Most of his life revolved around the activities of First United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and group leader of High School youth, choir member, and trustee. John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sarah Jane Proffitt. He leaves a daughter from his first marriage, Valerie (née Proffitt) Young. He’s also survived by children, Sarah (née Hill) Kastendieck, Tom Hill, and Jeremiah Proffitt. He was greatly loved by his grandchildren, Heath Kastendieck, Kendra Kastendieck, Dylan Hill, Logan Hill, Payden (née Proffitt) Davis, and Lili (née Proffitt) Davis. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or Stewardship Drive, 310 W. 11th St., Pueblo, CO 81003.
