HOWARD, John Latimer, joined his wife, Winnie, of 67 years, at the feet of Jesus on August 1, 2017. He was born November 18, 1920, in Pell City, Alabama, to Annie Argent Elizabeth Jones Howard and Oscar Lee Howard. He is survived by his three daughters, Martha Jo Brooks (Larry), SuEllen Dunlavey (Dean), & Lisa Lee Jenkins (Mark); seven grandchildren, Laura Pass (Garrett), Clay Brooks, Ben Brooks, Alan Dunlavy (Fon), Rachel Hogan (Justin), Grace Jenkins, & Johnathan Jenkins; two great-grandchildren, Kate Pass & Webb Pass; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Howard & Jean Howard; and various other friends and relatives. John was raised in Verbena, Alabama, attended school there, and received a B.S. degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1948. He joined the Navy in 1942, and served for thirty months on the U.S.S. Mobile, whose duty was in the Pacific Theater, gaining eleven battle stars and a Presidential Citation during World War II. After the war and schooling, he was a member of the Alabama Office of Public Accountants and Secretary-Treasurer of Commercial Contractors, which built homes, apartments, and shopping centers all over the Southeastern United States until his retirement. He was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church for sixty-four years, serving on many committees during that time. Visitation will be held Monday, August 7, 2017, at 10 am, at St. James United Methodist Church, followed by his funeral at 11 am, and burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
