John M. Lesh passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 7th at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 95. John was born in Nunn, Colorado. He was one of 10 children who grew up with his brothers and sisters on the Colorado Prairie.
A Costa Mesa Resident for almost 60 years. John and his wife of 59 years, Mary, who preceded him in 2011, is survived by 2 daughters, Patricia Kennedy and husband Stan, and Susan. He is also survived by two wonderful granddaughters Kristen and Kimberly and three beautiful Great Grand Children, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
John served in the US Navy as Chief Radioman during World War II and participated in 7 major battles including Pearl Harbor and Midway.
John met his wife, Mary, in Pasadena, California, later married, and settled first in Costa Mesa, then Santa Ana Heights for a few years, and then finally they purchased their current home in Costa Mesa in 1963.
Professionally, John worked as a Manufacturing Engineer and Manufacturing Cost Analyst, predominately in aerospace. He was a licensed Ham Radio Operator for over 35 years and was very active on the Pearl Harbor Survivors Net. He was an artist, clock builder, avid gardener and thoroughly enjoyed riding his stationary bike each and every day.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 14th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and a service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday June 15th at 11:00 am. Both celebrations will be held at Harbor Lawn - Mount Olive Memorial Park, 1625 Gisler Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 to be followed by a reception from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Lesh Family home located at 966 Junipero Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626.
One of the "Greatest Generation" John was a proud American and patriot, who loved his country, his family and friends, life in Costa Mesa, and his beloved neighborhood very much. He will be missed.
