John R. Powers, age 75, of Fairmount, IN, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Renaissance Speciality Hospital in Muncie, IN. John was a lifetime farmer. In his earlier years he was a dairy farmer. He was a Madison Grant School Bus driver for 32 years and a licensed Auctioneer. John was a life member of Grant United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and was a Layleader. He enjoyed volunteering with the Grant County Chapliancy Program and was a Farm Bureau member. John enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, and his 1952 Ford Truck. He was an avid bird watcher always keeping his feeders full. His favorites were the hawks. He was the son of the late Vaughn Powers and the late Dorothy (Echelbarger) Powers. John was born in Grant County, Indiana on January 16, 1934. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1952. John is survived by his wife of neary 55 years Betty Mitchener Powers. They were married on March 6, 1955 at the Fairmount Friends Church. John is also survived by Three Daughters: Vonda (Stan) Cawthorn, Fairmount, IN Paula (Marc Freije) Powers, Naples, FL Jonna (Kent) Grindle, Jonesboro, IN One Son: JD Powers, Fairmount, IN 3 Grandchildren; Kale Grindle Christen Cawthorn and Kelsey Grindle Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN Visitation is Friday, December 4, 2009 from 4-8 PM and the funeral home. Funeral Service is Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Dr. Constance Cherry officiating. Interment will be at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, IN Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant County Chaplaincy Program or Grant United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
