John Richard Franklin, 74, of Wake Forest, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 14, 2017. Beloved husband of Lynne (Daugherty Klatt), Richard loved his family and was grateful for all the blessings the Lord provided. A life-long resident of this area, he grew up in the Swift Creek community and was a graduate of Cary High School, Class of 1961.

Richard lived to share the glory of God's love with others, and his life reflected his love and commitment to Christ though teaching Sunday school for more than 40 years and as a lay pastor at Durham Rescue Mission and other local churches. He was most grateful for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, and he would want you to also know the love of Christ.

Richard was the son of John Delno and Mary (Pendergraft) Franklin of the Swift Creek community. He is survived by his wife Lynne Daugherty Klatt Franklin; son Dr. Richard Clifton Franklin (wife Angela); daughter Karen Franklin Paschall (husband Donnie); step-daughter, Shelly Bolton Pleasants (husband, Jason); step-son, Michael Klatt (wife Dawne); and step-daughter, Laurie Klatt Tew (husband Keith). He is also survived by grandchildren Drake, Tyler, Ashton, and Aubrey Franklin; Duncan, Elaina, and Alison Blount; Dylan, Marissa, and Jordan Paschall; Brandon and Madelyn Pleasants; Brittany Tew Rhinehart (husband Nate) and Tyler Tew. His great-grandchildren are Kelsey and Dylan Rhinehart. He is also survived by siblings Fay Johnson, Lewis Franklin (wife Linda), Carol Clifton (husband Glenn), and Phillip Franklin (wife Debbie). He was preceded in death by his parents Delno and Mary; wife Janet Craddock Franklin; wife Mary Jo Jones Franklin; brother-in-law, Olin Johnson.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 18, 2017, from 10:30 to 12:30 at Beacon Baptist Church, 2110 Trawick Road, Raleigh, NC. The funeral service will follow at 12:30. Burial at Raleigh Memorial Park.
