John Wesley Goddard, Born on November 20, 1923 in Alva Oklahoma, Departed this world on March 9, 2017 in Newport Beach, California. John was born in a small Oklahoma town and graduated from Alva High School in 1940. John enlisted in the Army in his 20’s during WWII and served in France as part of his deployment. After his discharge from the Army John married a beautiful young lady, Imogene Pearl Bastian, on October 1, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. John became a meat cutter and he and Jean had two daughters. Eventually the family moved to California in 1953 and John bought a butcher shop in Los Angeles, California and with the help of Jean supported their family of four.

John was a long time resident of Costa Mesa. He and Imogene (Jean) moved from Burbank to Costa Mesa in 1989. John’s wife Jean, the love of his life, preceded him in passing 17 years ago. John is survived by his two daughters Barbara Goddard (Robert P. Jones) and Jacqueline Finnegan (John Finnegan).

During the years spent in Costa Mesa, John amassed an extra ordinary number of friends both through his golf, card playing and the Costa Mesa Senior Center, not to mention the many friends he left behind in Burbank, CA. All of whom he continued to communicate with regularly. John’s passions were golf, where in 2000, he got his first hole in one. John also enjoyed wood working and he became very proficient at making Hobby Horses, which he would give away to his friend’s grandchildren. Last but not least he loved playing cards, specifically Texas Hold’em and Dominos. Country and Gospel music were his favorites.

John had but no greater love than for his beloved Jean and his two daughters. However, first and foremost was his love of God Almighty and Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior.

All and all John Wesley Goddard was a good, decent and generous man. Rest in Peace John.
