Johnnie Hall Williams, of Omaha, died Tuesday, Nov. 28th despite fantastic care at University of Nebraska Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, Dec. 2, at Morning Star Lutheran Church in Omaha.
Johnnie was born January 27, 1924 to Clarence and CaRema (Hall) Williams in Sloan, Iowa. He started college on a basketball scholarship at Drake University, but he interrupted his education to serve in the US Army Air Forces during WWII. His service took him to a number of islands in the Pacific Theater, and he participated in several B-29 raids over Japan. When he returned home, he was briefly paralyzed by polio, but regained the strength to play basketball. He was proud to have played on a championship winning team at Morningside College, where he graduated and was later inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a lifetime member of DAV.
He married Betty Borchers on Dec. 26, 1960 in Sioux City. He lived and worked in Omaha since the late 1960's, and he owned his own business for many years. He was a sports fan and a history buff and his wit will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, son Rhett of Omaha, daughter Megan (Keith) Lostroh of Waterloo, IA, grandson Aaron Lostroh, and a brother, Frank (Naia) Williams of San Marcos, CA. Memorials may be directed to Morning Star Lutheran Church or charity of one's choice.
