Johnny William Rodgers, 75, went to meet his Heavenly Father on June 4, 2017, at his home in Cartersville, GA. He was born September 10, 1941 in Montezuma, Georgia, to Carl Rodgers and Louise Kelley Rodgers.
He graduated from Oglethorpe High School in 1959, and attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton for one and a half years. He joined the Navy in 1961, served two years, rejoined in 1975 and served two more years and finished his service in the reserves, retiring in 1993 from NAS, Atlanta, GA. Most of his time in service he worked as a cook aboard ship.
He was a butcher by trade, having worked at both Bi Lo and Ingle's in Cartersville, retiring from Ingle's.
Johnny was a long time member of Heritage Baptist Church and the RSVP Bible Study Class. He was also a Mason and a member of the John W. Akin Lodge #537 in Taylorsville, Ga, and served as Worshipful Master in 2009.
He loved to fish and before his health began to fail, he was always looking for a new place to cast his rod. He also loved watching The Georgia Bulldogs and at game time, could be found in his favorite chair.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Andrew Rodgers.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Reva Brady Rodgers, son, Jay Rodgers of Bonaire, GA, Granddaughter, Kelley Rodgers of Byron, GA, stepson, Greg Brady, two stepdaughters: Denae Brady and Danielle (Tony) Manry, special step-great grandson, Brady Jones, All of Cartersville, GA, brother, Carlton (Mary Ann) Rodgers of Macon County, GA, nephew, David (Janna) Rodgers of Deland, FL, niece, Deanne Murphy, of Williamsburg, VA, aunt, Thera Head of Oglethorpe, GA, three great nephews and a great niece and friend and caretaker, Paul Richards.
Interment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA, on Wednesday, June 14 at, nine o'clock in the morning. Visitation will follow the interment from 10:30 am until the service hour at 11:30 am, at Heritage Baptist Church, Cartersville, GA. Michael Tutterow will be officiating, and the members of John W, Akin Lodge #537 will be giving the Masonic Last Rights Service.
