Mr. Jose Silveira Cardoso, age 86, of Dallas, GA., passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017. Mr. Cardoso was born on December 16, 1930 in Horta Faial, Azores, a son to the late Antonio Cardoso and Conceicao Freitas Cardoso.

To say Mr. Cardoso lived a great life would be an understatement. His dedication to work, family, and faith was extraordinary. Mr. Cardoso never received any formal education, however, through extreme hard work and dedication he developed skills to carry out a life like no other. Jose grew up in the Azores Isles of Portugal and later moved to the United States in the middle-age years. Growing up in Portugal, Jose was taught the importance of hard work by his father. He supported his family through the art of Whaling. In those days, Whaling was an extremely dangerous line of work, nonetheless, Jose was willing to risk anything to ensure his wife and children were taken care of. After marrying his beautiful wife and having their four children, Jose set out to seek the best life possible for his family. He took his family to the United States with minimal funds in his pocket and managed to quickly find a job. Jose settled his family in Massachusetts and began work as a Machine Operator at Cumberland Farms. Mr. Cardoso was the perfect picture of the 'American Dream'; he set out on a journey to provide for his family and exceeded all expectations. At the ripe age of 65, Jose became a United States Citizen, which was a life-long dream. Though he was especially known for his diligent labor, he also had several hobbies he enjoyed. One of his favorite hobbies was cheering on his favorite soccer team, Benefica and he was ecstatic when they won the Eurocup. He was also very dedicated in the Catholic Church and instilled the importance of faith in all of his family. Somewhere inside of every individual is the unique desire to leave an unforgettable legacy not only through their own works, but also within those they leave behind; and Jose was one of the rare few who accomplished just that. The pride he carried for his wife, children, and grandchildren, and all of their accomplishments was overwhelming. Though he reached many reputable achievements, his greatest was being a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Nothing brought him more joy and contentment than to simply be the rock of his family. Mr. Cardoso left an incredible mark on this earth and he will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Along with his parents Mr. Jose Cardoso is preceded in death by two brothers, Francisco Cardoso and Mario Cardoso; and one sister, Virginia Cardoso.

Jose is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Genoveva Inez Cardoso; three sons, Joe (Theresa) Cardoso of Stoughton, MA., Mario (Gail) Cardoso of Acworth, GA., and Antonio (Pam) Cardoso of Dallas, GA.; one daughter, Maria (Jose) Soares of Dallas, GA.; five brothers, Antonio Cardoso, Mario Cardoso, Joao Cardoso, Gilberto Cardoso, and Alberto Cardoso; nine grandchildren, Marlene Soares, Melissa Gomes, Nicole Cardoso, Joseph Cardoso, Yolanda Miller, Kristina Russell, Robert Cardoso, Caitlyn Cardoso, and Michael Cardoso; eight great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Addison, Rosalie, Isabella, Joey, Francesca, Genevieve, and Vivienne; several nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive.
