Mr. Josiah McClain, Jr. was born on August 21, 1928 in Florence County to Josiah Sr. and Sophia Frier McClain. He departed his life on Monday, May 15, 2017. Josiah attended the public schools of Florence County. He was formerly employed with Merita Bakery for over 38 years. He also worked for many years as a general contractor, building and remodeling homes in the Florence area. Josiah served honorably in the United States Army. Josiah was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully as a Trustee. When he could no longer actively serve, he was declared an Honorary Trustee. He also served with the United Methodist Men, and was a member of the Senior, Gospel and Mass Choirs. Josiah was one of the first drivers of the church vans for many years. In addition to his parents, Josiah was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Kelly McClain; and his seven siblings: sisters, Sulean Gregg, Irene Campbell and Corene Harley; and his brothers: William Taft, Mallie, Hosea and Boston. Those left with his memories include: his children: Arie (Wayne) Wilson and Josiah R. (Carol) McClain, III; seven grandchildren: Deron B. Cain, Kevin T. Wilson, Amie K. Wilson, Karen M. Wilson, CMDR Carlton J. McClain, Kara L. Reynolds and Julian K. McClain; eight great-grandchildren: Josiah S. Cain, Carlton J. McClain, Jr., Carius E. McClain, Isaiah Q. McClain, Lauren E. Reynolds, Kendrick O. Reynolds, Kavan L. Reynolds and Larissa L. Reynolds; sisters-in-law, Carrie Mae McClain and Francine McClain; and a host of other relatives and friends.
