Joyce Howell, age 90, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. Her last months were spent embraced by the love and care of her family.

Born October 1, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, to Helen Detweiler Rinderman and Albert Rinderman, she was raised in Rockville Centre, New York, where she met her husband, Doug. They were high school sweethearts. She attended Green Mountain College while Doug served in the Navy during World War II. After they married, they moved to Baldwin, New York where they raised their four daughters. She was the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools. She and Doug retired to Boulder in 1991. In Boulder, she worked at Peppercorn on the Pearl Street Mall. Her love and knowledge of crystal and fine china made it the perfect retirement job.

Joyce ("Hud") loved her family and friends, the beach, the mountains, good food, red lipstick, lobster, flowers, Blue Bloods, Frank Sinatra, the Broncos, Chanel No. 5, and Hershey's Chocolate; not necessarily in that order.

Joyce will be especially remembered as the family matriarch and honorary mother to many. She blessed us all with her radiant presence and joyful, generous love. She let everyone she met know that they were special. She touched the first ones, the last ones, and all in between. The greatest gift she gave us all was pure love and her lipstick kisses; forever our Queen of Hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug, her parents, her sister Gladys and husband Jim Van Deusen, and her brothers Howard and Gilbert.

Survivors include her four daughters and their families:

Marcie Howell, husband Terry Crannell, children Alyssa, Collin and wife Vickie, Fawn, Teresa, Simone and husband Stuart, and grandchildren Griffin, Layla, Ariel, Lily, and Sofia.

Pam Howell, husband Paul Price, daughter Rita, and granddaughter Zoe.

Melissa Manning, children Brittany, Kelly, Colin, Erin and husband Max, and grandchildren Esther, Sam, and Mira.

Carolyn Koss, husband Bob, children Colleen, Alison, Jesse, Kristi and husband Matt, and grandchildren Gabe and Jean.

She is also survived by her sister Priscilla Smallwood; sister-in-law Lee Rinderman; her nieces and nephews; Victoria, Jenifer, Robin, Timothy, Peter, Allyson, Bruce, Rainslee, Roger, James, Nancy, Jane, Mack, Kris, Karen, and Bridget; many lifelong friends; and countless members of her fan club.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, 4775 Cambridge St, Boulder, CO 80301, with a reception to follow. Donations can be to the Alzheimer's Association, in honor of Doug. Share memories and condolences at
