Joyce Beverly Mattison
March 1, 1931 - May 30, 2017

Joyce B. Mattison, 86, formerly of Eau Claire, WI died peacefully on Tuesday May 30, 2017 at Home Sweet Home in Mesa, AZ with family by her side.

Joyce was born March 1, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN to Brule and Katherine Carleson. Soon after, the family moved to Eau Claire, WI where she grew up and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1948.

When she was only 14 years old she met a handsome neighborhood boy, Owen Mattison, who became the love of her life. After he returned from war, they were married on August 19, 1950. Together with the help of their parents they built their home on Westover Road, where they raised their three children and lived for 63 years. Joyce was a loving wife and a wonderful mother. She worked at DeLong Middle School and enjoyed having her summers off, to spend time with her family at Hillcrest Country Club and at their cottage on Lake Eau Claire.

In 1989 they built a home in Leisure World Mesa, AZ. They were members of Leisure World Country Club and spent their winters playing golf and swimming. In 2013 they sold their home in Eau Claire and became full time residents of Arizona. Joyce and Owen loved to golf, and they were members of Hillcrest Country Club in Eau Claire for over 55 years. Many of their closest friendships were with their "golfing buddies" from Hillcrest. Joyce also enjoyed getting together every month with a wonderful group of her high school girlfriends, her beloved "Talking Club".

Joyce and Owen were founding members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and also attended Church of the Master in Mesa, AZ

Joyce will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son David (Pam) Mattison, daughter Nancy (Michael) Jones, son-in-law Gregg (Kay) Grudem; grandchildren Josh (Jennifer) Grudem, Melissa (Berny) Kruse, Kayla (Matt) Thomas; great-grandchildren Jarod Grudem, Carson Kruse, Mattison Rose Kruse, Rion Kruse; sisters-in-law Ruth (Richard) Anderson, Jeanette Mattison, Mary Carleson; brother-in-law Richard Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Brule & Katherine Carleson; brothers James Carleson and Brule Carleson, Jr. and daughter Luann Grudem.

The family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Home Sweet Home and Hospice of the Valley. Special thanks to nurse Bradley with H.O.V., for his kindness and loving care over this last year.

There will be a private family memorial service Sunday, June 4th in Mesa, AZ. Final resting place will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Eau Claire, WI.
