Juanita J. Schaber, 93, died on January 1, 2018. Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Martin J. C. and Mina S. (Trosin) Werling. She was an honor graduate of North Side High School. During World War II, she served for 18 months in the U. S. Navy as a Wave. A charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, she and her husband, Donald R., were the first couple married there in 1949. She served as President and Secretary of its Women's Guild, Sunday School teacher, greeter and congregational representative to the Lutheran Life Villages Auxiliary. She thoroughly enjoyed trips to meet her pen friends of many years, Patricia Slater (England) and Betty Kingston (Australia). In 1988, she retired after fourteen years as secretary to the president of The Indiana District of the Lutheran Church-Mo. Synod. She was a member of American Legion Post 47 and Waves National. Survivors include her husband, Donald; children, David (Vicki) of Harlan; Diane (Gary) Jones of Fort Wayne; Kay (Jonathan) Wolf of Los Angeles, Calif; and Gary of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Daniel (Jessica) of Wilkinson; Jeremy (Lalinda) of Woodburn; Laura Schaber (Monte) of Harlan; Timothy of Harlan; Rebecca Jones of Indianapolis; and two great-grandchildren, Jaiden and Kaydence Schaber; a brother, Martin M. (Maria) Werling, Virginia Beach, VA. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Richard and Calvin Werling; and sister, Audrey Hogan. Funeral Service will be at 11:00am on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be from 4-7pm on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
