Judith Ann Baker died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, June 9, 2017 at NorthCare Hospice House, after battling illness for many years. She was born on October 26, 1946 in Denver, Colorado to Oshie and Martenia Smith, who preceded her in death.

Judy was a 1964 graduate of Turner High School and in 1968 graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg (now Pittsburg State University) with a Bachelor’s in Education (Psychology and Sociology). There she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, Association of Women Students, and Student Senate. In 1968, she married the love of her life, Gerald Baker, and they soon made their home in Gladstone, Missouri, where they lived for almost 50 years. She was a stay-at-home mom to their only daughter, Amanda. Judy loved being able to help with school activities through the years, including being a room mother, PTA president, and Oak Park High School band booster.

Judy had many joys in life: her husband of 49 years, Gerald, her daughter Amanda, her son-in-law Mike, her many friends, her church, a good game of Scrabble, the Mizzou Tigers, and Kansas City Chiefs football. She was a member of Fairview Christian Church for more than 40 years, where she served as a deacon and elder, and loved her church family. Her true passion in life was her job as a hospital ambassador at North Kansas City Hospital, where she helped and ministered to countless families during surgeries and hospital stays. She blessed many people with her work, and was known as the “Angel Lady” for the many Angel brooches and pins that adorned her work vest, many gifts from families she had helped. She worked at North Kansas City Hospital for more than 15 years, and leaves behind many friends there. Judy is survived by her husband Gerald Baker, her daughter Amanda Spake, her son-in-law Mike Spake, her beloved dog Murphy, and many family and friends who will always remember her loving spirit.

Judy’s family would like to send a special thanks to all the staff of NorthCare Hospice House, as well as the nursing staffs of 8 Floor East, CICU, and 6 Floor North at North Kansas City Hospital. They took such great care of her in her final days, and for that we are all grateful. Funeral services will be June 14, 2017 at Fairview Christian Church, where the family will receive visitors at 9am, followed by services at 11am, burial at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions are requested to the NorthCare Hospice House or North Kansas City Hospital Auxiliary.
