Kenny Don "K.D." Smith, 69 of Griffin, Georgia, and former resident of Abilene passed away on June 25, 2016.
K.D. was born February 23, 1947, to retired Staff Sargent (USAF) Donald R. and Connie C. Smith in Altus, Oklahoma. K.D. served his country in the United States Navy as a Corpsman during Vietnam. While in the service, he served aboard the U.S.S. Sanctuary. K.D. attended Hardin-Simmons Univesity and McMurry University. After serving his country, K.D. was a successful business owner in furniture manufacturing, distribution, and retail sales. K.D. personified the expression "nose to the grindstone." His love for Texas ran deep and he was an avid Cowboys fan. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents of Abilene, TX; and step-son, Corey.
Survivors include his son, Shane (Gina) Smith of Boston, Massachusetts; his sister, Teresa (Mike) Lambert of Abilene, Texas; and one grandchild, Ryan.
A viewing will be held today, Wednesday, July 6, 2016, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith followed by entombment at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. A reception will follow afterwards.
