On Sunday, March 26, 2017, Karl W. Wheeler, Jr, cashed in his final chips in the grandest poker game of all, and passed away peacefully with his family at his side, at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. He had kept his never waivering "poker face" over the past few years, as his health had begun to decline, and he never lost his wonderful sense of humor or his independent spirit.

He had built a life full of memories, which will live on through those he leaves behind. His life began in the town of Marlow, NH, born April 27, 1930, to Karl and Malia (Cilley) Wheeler, Sr. He was born, one of fifteen children and soon learned the value of family and unbreakable bond of unconditional love. He went on to proudly serve our Nation as a member of the United States Army. When he returned home he found the community of Sullivan, NH as his new home. For many years he owned and operated Keene Transmission Exchange, until turning the business over to his son, Kevin in 1991. For more than forty years he also served on the Sullivan Police Department, including his time as Police Chief.

His devotion to his community and to those that he cared most about was evident in his endless striving to protect, nurture and defend. He loved spending time with his family. On October 16, 1999 he married the love of his life, Carlene Stoughton, and the two shared many happy years together. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially fishing: was always ready for the next fishing trip and loved being near the water. He believed strongly in the need for family to be together and insisted that his family get together every Sunday for their time together to visit and of course play cards. There wasn't anything that he would not do for someone in need and he was always willing to help a friend in need. Two of his greatest past-times where telling amazing stories and jokes and playing the guitar and singing.

He is survived by his son: Kevin Wheeler and his fiancé: Kathleen McMahon and her daughter, Savannah Berthiaume of Sullivan, his daughter: Kelly Darling-Snow and her companion Andy Roth of Keene, six grandchildren: Annessa Darling-VanStaden and her husband Renaldo, KJ Wheeler, Jonathon Lash-Wheeler, Corin Lash-Wheeler, Tucker Lash-Wheeler and Kasey Snow, great-grandson: Lawson Wheeler, his sister: Maxine Senger and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Sullivan Church on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 1pm. Burial will follow in the Sullivan Center Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on the family on Sunday, April 2, 2017 form 5 to 7pm a the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH.
