Ms. Katherine Atkins Etersque, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the age of 77. Katherine was born to parents Claude W. and Ruth Costello Atkins on May 19, 1939 in Washington, D.C. She grew up in Miami, Florida as the eldest of three sisters and attended North Miami High School. In 1959, she married and started a family in Miami. They relocated from Florida to Princeton/Athens and then Morgantown, West Virginia. From there, they moved to Savannah, Georgia where Katherine returned to school and received a bachelor's degree from Armstrong College in 1984. She then relocated to Metro Atlanta where she served as assistant registrar at Kennesaw State, North Metro Tech and Clayton State and registrar at the Georgia State University College of Law. She lived in Kennesaw, Stockbridge and Acworth, where she remained after retiring in 2001. After retirement, Katherine was active in the North Cobb Senior Center and enjoyed card-making and other crafts. In 2013, Katherine suffered a major stroke and moved into a nursing home in Marietta, GA. Katherine is survived by her daughter, Andrea Baerwalde of Dallas, Georgia; her son, Michael Etersque of Sandy Springs, Georgia; two sisters, MaryAnn Comisso of Delray Beach, Florida and Sarah Benjamin of South Pasadena, Florida; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Ian and Ashlyn Baerwalde. Prayer service followed by visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23 from 2 to 4pm at Georgia Cremation Centers, 4325 Hwy. 92, Acworth, GA 30102. The family is grateful for condolences and, in lieu of flowers, requests donations be made to the National Stroke Association, the North Cobb Senior Center, or your favorite charity.
