On September 8, 1922, Katheryn Overstreet was born the twelfth child in Kaufman County to the late parents of Eli and Savannah Lewis Jackson. Katheryn received her elementary education in the Lawrence community public school. After moving to Terrell, Texas she attended Burnett High School. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and united with the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Lawrence, Texas. After moving to Dallas, she united with Greater New Zion Baptist church under the pastorage of Rev. A.V. Voice. A member of the Usher Board, Senior Mission #2, North Texas State District Ushers, Heroines of Jericho Evergreen Court #155 and Associate member of Mary Allen College and American War Mothers & Veteran Wives. Katheryn Jackson met and married Luby Gipson who preceded her in death. To this union two children were born, Helen Katheryn and Luby James Gipson. She later married James Overstreet who also preceded her in death. On April 22, 2017 Sister Katheryn Overstreet peacefully answered God’s call. She leaves a legacy of a beautiful Christian family. Daughter, Helen Allen-Taylor, (husband Thomas Taylor); Son Luby James Gipson; 5 grandchildren, Lolita R. Allen, Theodore Allen Jr. (wife Robertese Allen), Danny Gipson, Donald Gipson and Anthony Gipson; 5 great grandchildren, Juwan Lee, Danyel Curry, Dapheni Allen, Daniel Allen, DeMarcus Allen; 2 great-great grandchildren, Morgan Curry, Alexander Curry and a host of family and friends who all loved her dearly.
