McKnight, Kathryn., 91, entered into rest Sunday, February 12, 2017. She was preceded in death along with her husband by her daughter, Mary Kearney; sister, Ruth Cullen, and a brother Clinton Benedict.

Born Oct 18th 1925 in Pawtucket Rhode Island to Clinton and Teresa “Conlon” Benedict, married George W. McKnight and was happily married 64 years before his passing in 2016. She spent her summers on the shores of Rhode Island and attended Sacred Heart High School in Pawtucket and college at Homeopathic Hospital at Roger Williams Medical Center and Yale School of Nursing where she received her RN degree. She was ahead of her time in her belief in natural food as medicine. Her love of art and design infused all she did from cooking to fashion to interior design. A lifelong-learner she was awarded her MBA from Florida International University at 53 which she applied to her career as a Nursing Supervisor at Osteopathic General Hospital in North Miami Beach. She pioneered health protocols for infectious disease during the beginning of the Aides epidemic as Infection Control Coordinator. Although a Rhode Islander by birth, Kathryn loved Florida and moved with her husband to Florida in 1952 and raised three girls in Miami and then eventually moving to Tampa in 2009. Although residing in Florida her attachment to her extended family resulted in annual adventures with three girls in tow to spend summers in Rhode Island. Her care and compassion will be painfully missed by all who's life she touched. Survivors include Bridget Towey and husband, Mark, and Margo McKnight; and grandchildren, Caitlin and John Towey and Elizabeth Kearney. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated, 12 p.m., Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9724 Cross Creek Blvd., Tampa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathryn’s memory to the The Florida Aquarium’s conservation funds https://flaquarium-2802.wedid.it Words of comfort may be expressed at www.blountcurryterraceoaks.com.
