RICE (HALL), Kathryn Muriel, age 84, of Kettering, passed away peacefully on Friday, 12 May 2017, at The Oaks of West Kettering from kidney failure. Kathryn was born on May 30, 1932 in Hamburg, Iowa to Floyd and Ferne Hall. She attended Kiowa Consolidated High School, and graduated in 1949. After graduation she worked at General Motors Acceptance Corporation as a Clerk-Stenographer. In 1951, she joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Women's Army Corps at the Pentagon. After a long, distinguished career as a loving wife, mother, and household Boss, she obtained a Realtor's License and worked for ERA/Dockery Real Estate in Xenia and Bellbrook for a short time. After that, she attended the Dayton School of Nursing and graduated in 1985 with an Associate's Degree in Licensed Practical Nursing. She worked at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia and at a nursing home in Ellenton, Florida for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd Ivan and Ferne Irene (Reeve) Hall and her former husband, Truman Ward Rice. She is survived by her siblings Barbara Evans, Fred Hall, Howard Hall, Daniel Hall, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Candace Reeves, Jeffrey (Connie) Rice, Laura (Jay) Obermeyer, Rebecca (Jim) O'Neil, Thomas (Michelle) Rice, 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, painting with Artex, crocheting, cross stitch, puzzles, word search puzzles, Solitaire and Words with Friends. She had a wonderful, albeit dry, sense of humor, and she coined many memorable phrases that will be remembered for many years by her children. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. The family would like to thank the entire staff at The Oaks, especially the nurses, who provided excellent, compassionate care and comfort around-the-clock for their Mother. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, 18 May 2017 from 5:00-6:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek OH 45432. A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation. Online condolences may also be sent to the family at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
