Kellie Lyn Vaughn Bentley, 34, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from complications of asthma. She was a life-long resident of Huntsville, going to Monrovia Elementary, Monrovia Middle School and graduating from Sparkman High School in 2001. She was baptized at Holmes Street United Methodist Church and recently started attending The Church of the Highlands in Huntsville.

Kellie received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2009. She has worked for several DOD contractors over the years and at the time of her death she was a lead technical writer for Northrop Grumman.

Kellie loved her family fiercely. She had a special gift for arts, crafts, and decorating. She was an entrepreneur, developing her first website completely on her own, at the age of 11, called Positively Poetry. Children would mail her their poems they wrote and she would publish them on her website, which won her awards and notoriety. She then furthered her website and graphic design talents as she grew older creating several websites for companies, writers, actors/actresses, and musicians. She was an incredible writer and wrote for the Huntsville Times and Teen People, among many other publications. Kellie also hand-made children's blankets, pillows, animals, and school nap mats, just to name a few things that she sold online. Her mind never stopped; she was constantly creating.

Kellie was an avid hockey fan from an early age, starting with the UAH Hockey team and expanded to the Huntsville Channel Cats and then the Huntsville Havoc. She met the love of her life, Todd Bentley, in 2002 when he was a member of the UAH hockey team. They were married in 2007, after which they had two beautiful children, Brooks, age 7, and Isabella (Izzy), age 2.

From a very early age, Kellie wrote letters to stars, musicians, sports figures and politicians to build a very impressive autograph and memorabilia collection. She loved reading, animals, traveling, genealogy, photography, music, movies and television. Her favorite times were holidays and special occasions when she could decorate, cook, and plan special gifts. Her favorite holiday was Christmas; she loved the cold weather and snow.

She is survived by her loving husband of 10 years, Todd Bentley of Huntsville; son, Brooks Todd Bentley; daughter, Isabella Harper Bentley; her parents, Bill Vaughn (Pam) of Huntsville, Lyn Benson (Lee) of Athens; sister, Kristie Edwards (James) and niece Lucie of New Market; grandmother, Mary Ellen Vaughn of Huntsville; step-sisters and brother, Kristy Burgreen (Jason) of Madison, Sissy DeHart (Thad) of Spring Hill, TN, Ben Benson (Nicki) of Athens; her in-laws, Dale Bentley (Lynn) of Livonia, MI, Cindy Norrow (Chuck) of Milford, MI; brother in-law Kyle Bentley (Carrie) and nephew Brayden of Livonia, MI.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm with services to follow at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL with Reverend Eddie Johnson as officiant. Pallbearers will be James Edwards, Kyle Bentley, Michael Duncan, Jeff Winchester, Jared Ross, and Jason Albert.
