KELLY ANNE CRUZ-BROWN passed away on October 4, 2017 at the home of her beloved mother, Marta Rodriguez, in the presence of her mother Marta, her brother, Charles Anthony Bonilla, her sister, Sandra Bonilla, and her husband, Daniel Brown. Kelly was born on July 24, 1968 in New York City to Gilberto Cruz and Marta Rodriguez. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Miami, Florida. She graduated from Florida State University. She then graduated from the Florida State University College of Law at age 23. She was admitted to practice law by the Florida Supreme Court in November of 1993. She practiced law with the Firm of Carlton Fields, P.A., in their Tallahassee, Tampa, and Miami offices until her death. Kelly was an admired and respected attorney who was held in high regard not only by her colleagues in Florida, but also by many attorneys across the country who interacted professionally with her in her chosen field of law. She served on boards of directors for charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Society, and was the 2007 Event Chair of one of the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” campaign. She devoted countless hours to those efforts, as well as to other charitable organizations, and still made time to serve on committees of the American Bar Association, in addition to maintaining a highly successful law practice. Kelly was a beloved and loving daughter, sister, and wife, and a generous and devoted friend to many. Her love and gracious presence will be profoundly missed by all those who have known and loved her. She is survived by her mother, Marta Rodriguez, her brother, Charles Anthony Bonilla, her sister, Sandra Bonilla, and her husband, Daniel Brown. A memorial service honoring Kelly will be at 2PM Saturday, October 14, 2017 located at North Meadowlawn Funeral Home 4244 Madison Street, New Port Richey, Florida 34652. (727) 849-9281. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Kelly make a donation in her name to The Darwin Foundation, located at 4600 E-W Highway, Suite 525, Bethesda, MD, 20814. This charitable foundation supports cutting edge research into how cancer cells mutate and evolve in cancer patients, with the goal of effectively intercepting and thwarting this deadly mutation process at a molecular level.
