Kenneth Burkes, age 59, of Middletown, Maryland, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 3, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted wife, Kathryn (Mimi), daughter, Kathryn (Kat) and dear friends during his final moments. Kenneth was born on May 21, 1958 in Baltimore, MD to Almeta and Hallie Burkes.

Throughout his lifetime, Kenneth showed many fruits of the spirit- love, kindness, faithfulness, and gentleness, the harvest of a life well lived. Kenneth had a deep love for God, family, and his country. He displayed kindness to neighbors, co-workers and everyone he met along the way. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Kenneth was well respected by his coworkers as a Construction Foremen. His motto was to work hard and be thankful for what you have.

Kenneth was a dedicated history buff. He is the last of the walking encyclopedias. He was mild mannered and always joyful. Children were drawn to him as he encouraged them to live their dreams.

There is no doubt that his life demonstrated a likeness of Christ. Kenneth's faith was unshakable, his favorite bible verse was Isaiah, 11:6 "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them." Today we celebrate the life of Kenneth but there is also another celebration in heaven because one of God's children has come home.

Kenneth's legacy will live on in our hearts and minds, and with everyone, forever. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and is survived by many loved family and friends, Kathryn (Mimi) McKelvie, Kathryn (Kat) McKelvie Burkes, Kenyatta and Harold Weaver and Michael, Sidney & London, Michael Finney and Taylor & Mekhi, Mandisa Burkes & Noelle, Ellnora Smith-Bey, Omar Williams, Tarik & Amon Smith-Bey, Courtney Gasque, Lenora (Nora) Sumerling and Billy Stabropoulos, Juanita Perry, Sedarin and Carla Perry, Seon Holley, Sedric Holley, Dorothy (Fram) & William Newell, Angela Faucette, Rudolph, Randolph & Da-Niya Coleman, Ricky and Reggie Coleman, Renee Coleman Roberson, Marion Armstrong, Deborah Armstrong & Jabil and Marshall Neal Armstrong, Barry and Joslyn Armstrong & Barry Armstrong, Jr., Kevin and Jessica Armstrong & Blake and Seth, Ann Smith, Joyce Mabine, Jimmy Smith, Shirley Roberson, Walter Smith, Jr., Margaret Belle, Willie (Elick) Smith, Howard Smith, predeceased by Almeta and Hallie Burkes, Dennis Perry, Michelle and Michael Perry, Howard & Elaine (Eloise) Evans.
