1933 – 2017 Canton, Kenneth Walter "Kenny" Brookshire, 83, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Silver Bluff Rehabilitation Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Gudger and Stella Miller Brookshire; and an infant son, Phillip. He was owner and operator of Brookshire Plumbing & Heating for more than 50 years and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Kenny served as a volunteer with the Canton Fire Department for 30 years, was a 32nd degree mason and a member of Pigeon River Masonic Lodge #386 AF&AM and was a United States Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Betty Jean Harwood Brookshire; three daughters, Kathy Sheppard and her husband, Ricky, of Canton, Lisa Sheppard of Arden, and Patty Singleton and her husband, Chip, of Canton; one step-son, David Thomas and his wife, Chin; a step-daughter, Debbie Godfrey ad her husband Jeff; a brother, Joe Brookshire of Canton; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Barry Clark and Reverend Tracy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Broyhill Baptist Children's Home, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or to Beulah Baptist Church, 483 Sunset Circle, Canton, NC 28716.
