Kevin Glackmeyer, beloved husband, father, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and photographer passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on December 19 following a brave, 10-month battle with cancer.
Born October15, 1956, Glackmeyer's lifelong passion for photography began when he received his first camera at the age of 14.
At the time of his passing, he was employed as the chief photographer at Troy University and previously served as official photographer on the staffs of three Alabama governors - James E. Folsom, Jr., Fob James, and Bob Riley.
Glackmeyer also worked at various times as a news photographer for the Associated Press, the Selma Times Journal, the Dothan Eagle, and the Montgomery Advertiser. In all of those roles, he captured and preserved many important and historic events, and his photos will be appreciated for generations to come.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Felix Edward Glackmeyer and Mary E. Glackmeyer. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Ashley, and children -son, Brandon, son, KC, son, Patrick, daughter, Harrison, and son, Dexter - all of whom he loved deeply and whose love in return sustained him during his final months.
Glackmeyer also leaves behind one sister, Linda Hollister; three brothers, Sean, Mike and Tim Glackmeyer; numerous nieces and nephews; legions of friends who loved him, countless lives he touched, and dozens of professional photographers he taught, mentored, and encouraged early in their careers.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses at UAB (Nathan and Scott) and Alacare Hospice.
