Former Cary resident Kyu Nam Pang, 90, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at her daughter, Mimi Lamb's, residence in Cornelius, NC.

Born in Ulchin, South Korea on January 13, 1927, she was a devoted mother and raised a family of six daughters and two sons. She was the mainstay of the family. During the Korean War, she was forced to flee to a mountain hideout with two young children while her husband was away to protect them from the fighting. She endured many hardships during the war and lost many treasured family possessions. She was very devoted to her family and helped to raise her grandchildren. She legally immigrated to the U.S. in 1983 and lived with her daughter in Anchorage, AK for many years before moving to Cary.

Mrs. Pang is survived by five daughters, two sons, 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sung Suk Pang and a daughter.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Apex Cemetery.
