On February 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, L.D. left this life to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. He passed away at UAMS in Little Rock after a hard-fought battle with Leukemia.

L.D. was born in Silas, Alabama on June 23, 1938.

L.D. graduated from Central High School in Waynesboro, Mississippi in 1956 and then went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University. He was awarded the prestigious John H. Hinman Forest Research Fellowship to Yale University where he earned a master's degree in Forestry.
L.D. worked for International Paper Company for many years and also ran a successful timber business of his own, Becton Timber Company.
Known to many as Brother L.D., he was a man of strong and devoted faith. He made serving the Lord and his church family main priorities in life, serving as both a deacon and a Sunday school teacher at Hampton First Baptist Church. His love for the Lord was evident to all who knew him.
L.D. was a prominent member of the community, serving as a school board member for 25 years.
If not at work or church, you would find L.D. dressed in overalls and a Carhart t-shirt. He enjoyed working in his garden, a good cup of coffee, riding around in the truck with Dee, and visiting family in Alabama whenever given the chance. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a wonderful grandfather, and the wisest and most patient man that you will ever know.
He provided for his children, sons-in-law, and grandchildren a lifetime of incredible memories and opportunities that will forever be cherished with grateful hearts. He left a huge impact on both his church family and the community of Hampton and will be truly missed by many colleagues, friends, and family members.

He is preceded in death by his father, L.D. Becton Jr., his mother Mattie Toomey Becton, and a brother, Joe Berry Becton.

L.D. is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Becton of Hampton; three daughters: Dee Becton of Hampton, Andy (Mark) Hodnett of Hampton, and Jana (Mark) Young of Parkers Chapel; six grandchildren: Holly Mitchell of San Antonio, TX, Anna Hodnett and Tyler Hodnett of Hampton, McCall Young,, Mary Grace Young, and Allison Young all of Parkers Chapel; a great-grand daughter, Elliott Mitchell of San Antonio, TX ; one sister, Totsy Todd of Silas, AL; two brothers, O. M. Becton and Tom Becton of Silas, AL, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 16 at Hampton First Baptist Church from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 17 at Hampton First Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Clint Ritchie and Rev. Charles Stover officiating. The burial will follow at Campground Cemetery.
