LaVerne Dereasette Holt Bell was born in Harlem, New York on April 27, 1931 to parents Lawrence R. Holt and Sudie Haynes Holt. After Sudie's untimely passing, Emily Lambert married Lawrence Holt and seamlessly assumed the role of mother.

LaVerne graduated from Morris High School, Washington Business Institute and received her Associate's degree from Suffolk County Community College in 1988. LaVerne married Kenneth E. Bell and together they produced three children: Patricia, Keith and Kirk. She spent the majority of her working life employed by Estee lauder in the Accounts Payable Department.

LaVerne retired from Estee Lauder in 1992 and moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina, which she referred to as "The Rock". While living in Rock Hill she became very active in her community. She volunteered at various not for profit organizations wanting to make a difference, give of her time, share laughter and her infectious energy. The following organizations benefited from her strong commitment to community:
Pilgrim's Inn - a battered women's shelter
Local animal shelter helping displaced animals feel the love of humans
The local Boys' &Girls' Club - mentoring children and acting as a surrogate "grandma"
A member of a few boards of directors

LaVerne had many passions and interests beyond her volunteer work. She loved talking about her children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen to her. She loved her constant companions Bink and Boo, her two cats. She loved to dance, listen to music, play the piano and guitar, travel and paint.

LaVerne leaves her daughter, Patricia Bell-Daniels (James), sons Keith Bell (Deborah) and Kirk Bell (Luyen); three grandchildren: Pia Daniels, Kendall Bell and Kaylah Bell. Also leaving a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and good family friends. Her brothers Lawrence, Jr. and Edward preceded her in death. She will be missed and always remembered as "a native New Yorker"!

A memorial service to celebrate LaVerne's life will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary' St., Raleigh, NC (919) 828-4311. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her name.

The family appreciates the huge show of love and support at this most difficult time.
