Larry Ewell Carriere's mansion God prepared for him was finished on June 27, 2007. He died at Lafayette General Hospital after several stays there for emphysema, heart disease, and lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 29, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers.

Officiating will be Reverend Steve Horn, and Reverend John Northway. Music will be provided by Reverend Luther Burney, Ramona Carmichael, and Lacianne Carriere.

Interment will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

The many people who knew and loved Larry can testify that He was truly 'one of a kind'. His favorite pass time was fishing and hunting, military history, and telling stories. The kids often joked, 'He was in the backyard reenacting some battle which he could quote word for word'. Larry was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on October 11, 1938. Most of his 68 years were in Lafayette, were he worked for USI Axelson later known as Enservice, Dresser, and Halliburton. His former friends and classmates from Lafayette, Sulphur, and Opelousas, were a constant joy to him, and he cherished their friendship. Larry was also very proud of his service in the U.S. Marine Corp. where he served for 9 ' years.

Larry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dianne 'Anne' Derbonne Carriere; his daughter, Dyna Lea Mitte of Hollywood, California; two sons in the New Orleans area, Tyler Derbonne Carriere, and wife, Casey Breaux Carriere, and Larry 'Chip' Ewell Carriere, II; four grandchildren, Lacianne Cole Carriere, RJ Mitte, Jordan Carriere, and Austin Carriere.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Joseph 'Red' Carriere, and Virlee Perry Carriere; and both in-laws, Anita and Herman Derbonne.

Larry's biggest regret was he would miss seeing his grandson RJ in his staring role in AMC's new television series, 'Breaking Bad' to air early 2008.

We will miss Larry's many jokes, stories, and his zest for life.

Pallbearers will be Jared Smalley, Jack Derbonne, Lemie Derbonne, Greg Landry, Kevin Keyser, and Don Hiller. Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Monier, Nolan Landry, Glen Comeaux, Billy Galyean, Ernest Harmon and David Kelly.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and continue Friday from 8:00 am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Larry may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503 or www.hospiceacadiana.com.

Personal condolences may be sent to the Carriere family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
